About Splore — Boutique consulting firm for user-centric innovation and User Experience

Splore is a boutique consulting firm for user-centric innovation and User Experience in Medical Technology, B2B software solutions, HMI design, and HealthTech. Founded in 2022 by Jona Rammler in Munich and now based in Hamburg, Splore combines strategic UX consulting with concrete design craftsmanship. A network of specialized designers, strategists, and technologists assembles the right constellation of skills for each project.

What makes Splore unique

Splore is a boutique consulting firm for user-centric innovation and User Experience. The focus is on digital products in regulated and technically complex industries, where generic UX approaches reach their limits and design errors have consequences.

Boutique consulting instead of large consulting

Splore operates as a small, focused consulting firm with clear specialization. Instead of covering many industries broadly, we concentrate on industries where we bring deep domain knowledge. This means: direct collaboration with the founder, short decision-making paths, and a quality standard measured by the impact on the user, not by the number of consultants in the room.

Platform model

Splore operates as a platform: For each project, we assemble the appropriate constellation from core competencies and an extended network of specialized colleagues. This model allows us to staff each project with the specialized expertise needed for the specific project type. For complex projects requiring different disciplines, from research to conception to Interface Design, this is the more suitable approach.

Four focus areas

Splore operates in four industry fields: Medical Technology, HMI design, complex B2B software from machine control systems to industrial applications to professional software platforms and HealthTech. Within these fields, we offer two action fields: UX Product Vision for strategic target image development and UX / Digital Product Design for operational implementation in the development team.

Jona Rammler, Splore founder, in his own words

» From designer to consulting and today a consulting designer. That's the best way to summarize my journey.«

» It started at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts in Kiel. Even during my studies, I dealt with complex systems and processes and have stayed with it because I am good at structuring processes and making concrete solutions tangible. An internship abroad in Boston broadened my perspective. After that, I moved to a Hamburg design agency, where I developed into a Design Director, hands-on, with concrete products, with the ambition to design interfaces that are both functional and aesthetically convincing. I then moved to Deloitte in strategic consulting. There, I worked with Design Thinking and Human-Centered Design to find out what new products actually need from the customer's perspective.«

» In these positions, I got to know both passions. In the agency, the hands-on design, where I could apply my creativity to improve products. In consulting, I experienced my strengths in penetrating complex, research-intensive projects through Design Thinking. It was the logical sequence to then combine both in my self-employment.«

» This is how Splore was born, with a clear mission: to work on complex topics through user-centric innovation that brings about meaningful solutions and helps real people. I want Splore to be recognizable for creating new products and their workflows. And to do so intelligently.«

» Today, I work together with a network of specialized colleagues on projects in complex industries. More on this in the next section.«

Team and collaboration

Splore works with a network of specialized colleagues from the fields of UX/UI Design, strategy, innovation, and technology. For each project, the appropriate constellation is assembled, depending on which disciplines the specific project context requires.

This model is a conscious decision. Boutique consulting firms typically work this way: specialized expertise per discipline instead of broad generalist coverage. For complex projects that require different competencies from research to conception to Interface Design, this means higher quality per discipline and the flexibility to assemble teams project-specifically.

In addition, Splore works on a project basis with partner consulting firms when a project requires their specific expertise. Current collaborations include Kite.Design in the field of User Research.

Werte und Arbeitsweise

Was Splore in der Zusammenarbeit auszeichnet, lässt sich auf fünf Prinzipien verdichten.

Values and working method

What distinguishes Splore in collaboration can be condensed into five principles.

Questioning mindset

Splore asks the right questions before solutions are built. This sounds self-evident, but it is not. In many projects, the first requirement is directly translated into a concept without checking whether the underlying problem is correctly understood. Splore calls this approach "Designing the Right Thing": First ensure that the right problem is addressed, then design the right solution for it. This ability to systematically test assumptions is the strongest differentiator in collaboration.

Depth instead of breadth

Splore consciously does not work in every industry. The specialization in complex, regulated, and technically demanding industries — Medical Technology, HMI design, HealthTech — enables domain knowledge that cannot be replaced by generic UX methods. Those who design clinical workflows, machine control systems, or digital health applications must deeply understand the usage context.

Meaningfulness as a selection criterion

Splore prefers to work with companies whose products provide social value — in healthcare, industry, digital health. This is not only a heartfelt topic but also a selection decision: We focus on projects where user-centric design makes a difference in the everyday life of users. Projects without a recognizable contribution to the cause are not the core of our work.

Consulting instead of service

Splore works as a consulting firm, not as an executing service provider. The difference: We develop the solution together with you, instead of taking a briefing and delivering a result. UX competencies are called upon during the project when needed for the respective step — embedded in your product team, as an integral part of development. For you, this means: shorter feedback loops, informed design decisions, and results that work in your context.

Excellence in execution

Splore sets the standard that user experiences are distinguished by function, aesthetics, clarity, and innovation. The principle 'Form follows function' is not a question of style but a work attitude: We design so that the function is supported by the interface, not overshadowed by it. Each project should visibly raise the bar for the respective company.

Tiefe statt Breite

Podcast: Behind the Screens

"Behind the Screens" is the podcast by Splore founder Jona Rammler on UX, strategy, and innovation in complex industries. In conversations with practitioners from UX, product development, and digital transformation, the topics that determine Splore's daily work are discussed: How does user-centric innovation succeed in regulated environments? What distinguishes strategic UX from cosmetic redesign? And what role does the client's ambition play in the outcome?

In six episodes, conversations on Greenfield Research, UX Maturity in corporations, and the strategic role of Design Thinking have emerged. Guests like Stefan Schreiber (Techem), Claudia Friedrich (zweigrad), and Sören Streile (Gaggenau) bring perspectives from practice. The podcast is available on Spotify and on the home platform Podigee.

The podcast is currently on pause while we build Splore's platform visibility. Once this phase is completed, "Behind the Screens" will return with new episodes.
